    Oil of Oregano

Oil of Oregano is has a multitude of uses and in my opinion should be in everyone’s medicine cabinet.

A report out of the University of Arizona said that oil of oregano is a powerful nutrient for fighting harmful bacteria and preventing cancer. It was discovered that carvacrol, a phenol of oregano oil, exhibits powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial activity when consumed and and also when added to foods.

Oil of Oregano is well recognised as a powerful antibacterial during lab tests and is widely used as a natural treatment for intestinal parasites and yeast overgrowth.

I have been using Oil of Oregano for a number of years, but generally I only use it when i feel the onset of a cold/flu. It certainly seems to help stave off more of the severe symptoms. Also, I sometimes take a few drops of it after eating a meal if i’ve been slightly concerned about the use-by dates or inadequate cooking. As Oil of Oregano is such a powerful antibacterial, my reasoning for using it after some meals is that if there were to be any bacterial contamination of the food i’d just eaten – the Oil of Oregano would knock it out before it had time to multiply and cause me to be ill. *Touch wood* i’ve not had any serious bouts of food poisoning or general illness from eating bad food since. I can’t say the Oil of Oregano is *the* reason for this, unless i’ve just been extremely lucky – i’d say it has certainly helped!

I also occasionally use it for skin issues too. If I ever get a spot or the ingrown hairs I sometimes get from shaving, i rub in a little of the oil to control the inflammation and ensure that it doesn’t get infected. It does the trick very well indeed – usually I put a little on before bed and when i wake up the inflammation has gone right down and the skin looks a lot better. It’s very strong though and people with sensitive skin should be careful using it neat, as it does cause a mild burning sensation.

I did a lot of research when I first discovered Oil of Oregano and the brand that I ended up choosing (based on a number of factors, such as carvacrol content) was by a Canadian company called Enerex. The product comes in a small glass bottle with a glass dropper built in. It’s very strong so you only need to take 2-3 drops at a time.

  • Welcome!

Hi there, just a quick introduction!

I’ve been interested in alternative health and general healthy living for a number of years now. After spending countless hours (months/years even!) researching alternative therapies and dietary supplements I thought it would be a good time to set up this blog to consolidate the knowledge I have gained and share with the world my findings and experiences.

I can’t recall the number of conversations i’ve had with friends, telling them about the importance of certain vitamins, products I have used to fight certain conditions and just general “health knowledge” I have learned. With the birth of my son just over a year ago, my thirst for this knowledge has only gotten stronger. I’m determined that he will grow up understanding about life, nature, nurture and that he can be as free from the shackles of pharmaceutical companies as can be. There are too many drugs handed out far too readily for my liking, not even mentioning the side-effects associated with many of them. We should learn from the knowledge our predecessors had and realise that nature provides us with all the materials we need to overcome illness and ensure we can lead healthy and happy lives.

I will only be reviewing and blogging about products that I myself use or have tried, so don’t get the impression that i’m here for the hard sell. I will always be truthful and brutally honest about my experiences.

Hopefully you will find some useful information here in time.

    Stay well!
